How to Create or Use Playbooks in Mattermost
Follow these steps to create, configure, and execute a Mattermost Playbook:
- Selecty the Menu Grid button in the top-left corner of Mattermost and navigate to Playbooks.
- Choose an existing Playbook template or create a new Playbook by selecting the + icon in the top-left of Mattermost.
Tip: Existing templates can be helpful to new users as guidance for building your own Playbook.
- Give your Playbook a name and select a template if desired.
- Build and customize your Playbook on the Outline page to fit your intended task(s).
- Complete the Summary of the Playbook to provide context or functionality information.
- Configure Status Update frequency and the channel the updates should post to, if any.
- Populate "Tasks" with the required activities this Playbook should track. "Tasks" may be assigned to users, "slash" commands, time constraints, and actions.
Tip: Design tasks using standardized and reusable language to support repeatable use across teams.
- Configure Retrospective options to allow Playbook users to provide feedback.
- Configure Actions for the Playbook.
- Run Channel (existing or new, private or public)
- Participants (i.e., new employee, manager, pairing employee, etc.)
- Owner
- "Join"/"Leave" behavior for participants
Once configured, the Playbook is ready for use.
NOTE: Playbooks may be initiated from the Menu Grid" > "Playbooks" interface or from the Playbooks menu in the top-right of the Channels pane, below the user icon.
